Background and Mission

Austin Soundwaves, the first major education initiative of Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts (HAPA), launched on October 17, 2011 by providing free, high quality music education to 40 students at a public charter school in East Austin, Texas. In just three years, the program has achieved significant results and seen substantial growth. From initially serving 40 students at a single site during the school day, Austin Soundwaves served over 100 students during the 2013-2014 school year, providing options for study on 11 musical instruments as well as study in music theory. During the 2014-2015 school year, Austin Soundwaves will serve over 120 students at 3 schools.

Mission: Austin Soundwaves provides high quality music education to artistically- underserved youth as a means to strengthen resiliency and awaken intrinsic motivation to learn, create, and achieve.

Statement of the Job

The Artistic Administrator will be responsible for supporting the Austin Soundwaves Program Director in planning and executing the second annual Fall Into Music musical instrument drive. In 2013, Fall Into Music collected over 150 instruments that were distributed amongst multiple schools and organizations that serve low-income youth.

The Artistic Administrator will also assist the Executive Director in planning and executing a large-scale gala. He/she will have opportunities to assist in organizational tasks related to fundraising, program design, and operations.


- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work collaboratively - Knowledge of music and music education a plus
- Experience working with non-profit organizations a plus
